Just like we were surprised and delighted to see how much we loved Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of T’Challa (Black Panther) in Captain American: Civil War, we were just as surprised and delighted when Marvel released the first TrailerTown for Ryan Coogler’s full Black Panther movie this week. There are laughs, there are heart-stopping action pieces, there are tears, there are restraining orders. It has it all.

But don’t take our word for it, if by some miracle you haven’t already watched this 17 times, experience it now and the read our Top 5 thoughts on it below:

Top 5 Things About the Black Panther Trailer

  1. That Final Shot – You know the one, a sonic explosion goes off, launching the car Black Panther is on top of in the air. It flips. He flips. The movie goes in slow motion. Then, miraculously, Black Panther lands on another car and looks into the camera as all hell breaks loose behind him. We swoon.
  2. The LOOK – We were excited when Ryan Coogler took the helm of this Marvel property, but looking at this TrailerTown, we weren’t excited enough. His visuals in Wakanda, and the African communities he has developed for this are jaw-droppingly beautiful. The colors, the tribal distinctions, the landscapes. We’re calling it now, this may be one of the best-looking MCU movies to date.
  3. RUN THE JEWELS! – At High Five: The Podcast, we love Run The Jewels, so we couldn’t have been more excited that this first Black Panther TrailerTown used “Legend Has It” from their album Run the Jewels 3. Not only is this song perfect, thematically, with this TrailerTown, it includes the line “Look like a man, but I’m animal raw.” Yup.
  4. The Cast – It feels like movies nowadays are just packing in the talent. We mentioned it on Murder on the Orient Expressand Black Panther is continuing this trend. Aside from Chadwick Boseman, who we all love, this movie has Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Martin Freeman, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, and Sterling K. Brown, just to name a few. Sit back, you’re in for a lesson in great acting.
  5. The Bad-Assery – Specifically, the introduction scene to Black Panther in the woods. He drops from a tree, throws a guy almost through a car, walks casually into machine gun bullets (thanks, vibranium!), and steals our hearts.

We’ve already got our plane tickets (not on United), to Wakanda for February 2018. Will you be joining us on the journey? What did you think of the newest MCU addition? Leave you thoughts, questions, and puns in the comments below!
