For film buffs like ourselves, the name Yorgos Lanthimos is not a new one. His films The Lobster and Dogtooth made us think, quiver, cry and cringe and the TrailerTown for his new film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, looks to keep that pattern going. Yorgos’ movies are a different kind of art, in the vein of Shane Carruth (Primer, Upstream Color), where everything is otherworldly yet horrifyingly terrestrial.

Top 5 Things About The Killing of a Sacred Deer Trailer

  1. Hella Ellie – The only music in this whole TrailerTown is a character from the movie singing Ellie Goulding’s Burn. It’s oddly hypnotic and goes a LONG way to creating one of the most disturbing tones for any trailer we’ve seen this year.
  2. Mystery Medical Theater 3000 – Most trailers nowadays give away the whole plot and everything neat that happens in the film (looking at you, The Dark Tower!), but this magnificently-produced peak at The Killing of a Sacred Deer almost gives nothing away except Colin Farrell playing a doctor dealing with……..something important and dangerous.
  3. Doctor, My Eyes – The visuals in this TrailerTown are spectacular. That’s not a surprise for fans of Lanthimos, but it’s always nice to see people continuing to do the things well we love them for. If nothing else, this movie will be a joy to look at.
  4. Scary Barry – Barry Keoghan is making a pretty good stand in 2017. He recently starred in the magnificent Dunkirk and will be in the upcoming Huge Weaving, Jim Broadbent film Black 47. In The Killing of a Sacred Deer he looks like a scary motherfucker who knows more than everyone else about what’s going on. He kills it in the trailer. (P.S. Our guess is that Colin Farrell’s character is related to the death of Barry’s dad in the film and he turns into the bad guy.)
  5. Secret Alicia Silverstone! – Did you know from this TrailerTown that Alicia Silverstone is in this movie? We didn’t either. We saw her name in the end credits snapshot and then went back and watched frame by frame to find her to no avail. You know what that means……..Secret Alicia Dance Party!!!
