Don’t look so surprised, you knew we were going to be making a TrailerTown post for Solo: A Star Wars StoryAfter we were all pretty underwhelmed by the teaser released during the Super Bowl, LucasFilm made it up to us by releasing the actual teaser TrailerTown the following morning on Good Morning America. We finally get a good look at Alden Ehrenreich as the titular Han Solo, but we also get some more plot points around Woody Harrelson’s involvement in the film as well as some great looks at a young Millennium Falcon and Chewbacca. There are a lot of things exciting about the peeks we get, but we also have our reservations.

But enough about us, just watch the TrailerTown already and then check out our Top 5 thoughts about it below:

Top 5 Things about the Solo Teaser Trailer

  1. Millennium Donkey Punch – We’re going to start at the end. Easily the best part of the Solo trailer is the last 15 seconds showing the flying prowess of our young hero as he spins the Falcon and literally punches a chasing Tie Fighter into an asteroid, followed by a Han Solo quip, immediately followed by more danger and impressive flying. We’re worried about a lot regarding this film, but hopefully, the Han attitude and his flying chops won’t have to be on that list.
  2. Rise of the White Falcon – It’s the little things, really. A prequel doesn’t have to be epically great if it can at least introduce some fun ideas and new takes on classic elements. We’re not saying Solo will or won’t be great, but one new take on a classic element is just how CLEAN the Millennium Falcon is when we first see it (0:25). We’ve never really thought about just how dirty the Falcon is when Harrison Ford is piloting it around the universe. It gets referred to as a “hunk of junk” multiple times, but we also know it managed to do the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, so it has to be an impressive ship. Hopefully Solo dedicates a worthy amount of time to introduce us to the most famous ship in the Star Wars universe.
  3. Lando Gambino – We’ve been avid supporters of Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) as a young Lando Calrissian since it was announced. We don’t get a lot of time with him in this TrailerTown, but the little glances we get give us some confidence in the look of the character. Now it’s just up to Donald to bring it home with the acting chops we know he has. We mean, come on, just look at how similar those smiles are!Lando Calrissian Solo
  4. Daenerys Stargaryen – We love Emilia Clarke in sci-fi roles (we are purposefully omitting Me Before You from our memories of her). Sure, the Terminator “prequel” isn’t that great, and you could say that her joining another well-respected sci-fi film series doesn’t bode well for the quality of Solo, but to that, we’d say: “Shut your mouth! She’s the Mother of Dragons, the Unburnt, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, and Breaker of Chains (among other things). We love her and want her to do good things!”
  5. (Don’t) Avoid the Droid – One thing the new crop of Star Wars movies have taught us is that we love when a great new droid character is introduced (think BB-8 or K-2SO). We get to see a new one in this TrailerTown (0:42) and on the IMBD page for Solo, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (from Amazon’s Fleabag) doesn’t have a character name associated with her involvement in the movie and we know she’ll be primarily a CGI character. We’d love to see a female droid take the spotlight and we can’t wait to see what Phoebe hopefully does with the chance.

Solo is flying into theaters on May 25. Will you be reserving your spot in the cockpit for the Falcon with us? Let us know in the comments!
