Let’s get this out of the way early, High Five: the Podcast loves Guillermo del Toro, so we were on board with his new project, The Shape of Water, before we knew much of anything about it. After seeing this TrailerTown, we’re diving in head first (pun intended) into this 1960s dream/nightmare. When it comes to monsters and creatures, few do it better nowadays than del Toro.

Put on your scuba gear and watch the TrailerTown for The Shape of Water and then read our Top 5 thoughts about it below:

Top 5 Things About The Shape of Water Trailer

  1. Toro! Toro! Toro! – Everything about this movie screams Guillermo del Toro. It’s set in 1963 (del Toro loves the time period from 1950-1975), deals with a creature that we can only imagine is Hellboy‘s Abe Sapien’s cousin, and is set in a dark and dreamlike set of locations. Let’s do this.
  2. Shannon Insurance – Michael Shannon is in this. Enough said. He’s basically an insurance policy for movies because he’s always good in them. Oh yeah, did we mention he’s playing a bad guy?
  3. 15 Seconds of Fame – The opening 15 seconds of this TrailerTown are so “on brand” for the movie and del Toro (and also beautiful), that it can’t help but get us excited for the movie to come.
  4. Creature Reacher – Just like some of our favorite movies from the 80s (E.T., Harry & the Hendersons, Mac & Me), this movie looks to focus on a misunderstood non-human and the people that go to great lengths to protect them.
  5. The Bookends – The TrailerTown opens and closes with Richard Jenkins giving a version of the line “If I were to tell you about her, what would I say?” which does nothing except heighten our curiosity about how this movie’s plot plays out.

Are you going to be swimming in excitement for Guillermo del Toro’s next feature or will you wait for it to flounder ashore? We’re in deep, but let us know your thoughts in the comments!
