There’s little we can say about Black Mirror series 4 that we didn’t say in our first review of their TrailerTown, but with the release of the season less than a month away and the recent release of teaser TrailerTowns for each episode, we couldn’t stop ourselves. It’s time to dive back into the mind of Charlie Brooker and see where his visions of our near future will take us this year.

1. Arkangel – directed by Jodie Foster

With this episode being directed by Jodie Foster, there isn’t much more pull we need to be on board for this one, but the subject matter (a future where child monitoring may be going too far) intrigues us in the same way last season’s Nosedive did.

2. Black Museum – directed by Colm McCarthy

You may not be too familiar with Colm McCarthy, but you should be. His work on Sherlock and Peaky Blinders is great, but his recent turn directing The Girl with All the Gifts set him up in our mind as a director to watch (you should also watch The Girl with All the Gifts if you haven’t already). We can’t put our finger on what exactly is going to happen in this episode, but we know we’re already unnerved by it.

3. Crocodile – directed by John Hillcoat

Accessing memories can be dangerous, and if you’re turning a story about accessing memories over to the great John Hillcoat, you’re guaranteed an arduous journey. Neither the title nor the teaser gives us a lot in the way of plot or what to expect, but isn’t that half the fun?

4. Hang the DJ – directed by Tim Van Patten

Black Mirror is at its best when exploring things natural to us now and taking them a few steps forward. Hang the DJ “follows two characters who live in a world where everyone is paired up using an advanced dating system” and we know the outcome probably isn’t going to be great for them.

5. Metalhead – directed by David Slade

How is Black Mirror getting all these huge directors?!?! Honestly, we don’t care. David Slade directing a black and white, post-apocalyptic, hide and seek episode with unseen hunters is already giving us the willies.

6. USS Callister – directed by Toby Haynes

This is the one everyone is already talking about. It’s a feature-length Star Trek parody starring Jesse Plemons and Cristin Milioti and directed by Doctor Who alum Toby Haynes. There are a million ways this could go because the teaser makes it look light-hearted and funny, but we all know that’s not Black Mirror‘s style. Our guess is that Cristin Milioti is a “real” person somehow transported into the world of a sci-fi TV show to unhappy returns, but even if we’re wrong, we won’t mind!

So there you have it, all the early looks and sneak peaks into the upcoming season of Black Mirror, debuting on December 29th. Until then we’ll just have to wait an……….wait……..what? There’s more!? We mean, they’ve already released a season TrailerTown and all these episode teasers, what more could there possibly b…….what? There’s ANOTHER official TrailerTown for Black Mirror series 4 with even more footage? WE NEED TO WATCH IT!

Holy Shit. December 29th can’t get here fast enough!
