Luc Besson has made a career out of trying to blow our minds and his newest feature, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (based off the groundbreaking graphic novel), appears to be no different. We’re not sure if this would make a list like our Top 5 Space Movies, but there sure is a lot of pretty stuff going on.

Watch the trailer now and then check out our Top 5 thoughts below:

Top 5 Things About the Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Trailer

  1. The Visuals – Luc Besson is known for incorporating amazing visual elements (think, The Fifth Element), and this looks no different. It’s almost hard to pay attention to the trailer in lieu of simply watching everything that is pretty.
  2. The Design – Apart from simply great visual effects, it looks like a lot of time was spent on the different character designs, which is important in a movie about a city where all races of alien life exist in the same place.
  3. The Music – Although cribbing early on from Terminator, the music in the trailer brings you into a futuristic world and definitely sets the mood.
  4. The Heart – Sometimes Besson goes overboard with trying to instill emotion in his movies (he nails it with The Professional, though), but don’t tell us your heart didn’t well up at minute 1:46 when the alien critter cowers against some unseen threat.
  5. The Dane DeHaan – While the verdict is still out on whether or not Cara Delevingne can act (she can’t), we are big fans of Dane. Between this and Verbinski’s The Cure for Wellness, 2017 is shaping up to be a great year for this wunderkind.

So, what did you think of the trailer for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? Will you be seeing it when it rockets into theaters?
