They say “Too much of a good thing is a bad thing,” but when it comes to Steve McQueen’s newest film, Widows, too many good things look to make an amazing thing! Steven McQueen (Hunger, 12 Years a Slave, Shame) comes back to the screen hard with his Gillian Flynn-penned heist thriller which looks to be a cross between Ocean’s Eleven and The First Wives Club, but with more murder and Viola Davis. Sometimes an overstuffed film feels thin, but Steve McQueen doesn’t really make thin movies, so we have high hopes for this one.

Don’t take our word for it though, watch the TrailerTown for Widows and then read our Top 5 thoughts about it below:

Top 5 Things About the Widows Trailer

  1. Everyone, Every One – Holy crap, you guys, we’re just going to list the cast and crew for the movie for this bullet: Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya, Elizabeth Debicki, Carrie Coon, Liam Neeson, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert Duvall, Cynthia Erivo, Jacki Weaver, Colin Farrell, Jon Bernthal, Michael Harney, Lukas Haas, Brian Tyree Henry, Steve McQueen, and Gillian Flynn. The End.
  2. Immaculate Conception – Here’s the premise of this movie: the wives of con men who all die in a heist-gone-wrong move forward with their husbands’ next job to (seemingly) get out from under some evil people in Chicago. If that’s not an intriguing concept for a heist movie, we don’t know what is.
  3. A Dash of Kaluuya – We all know how great a hero Daniel Kaluuya can be. We’ve all seen Get Out. We also know he can play a torn and tortured accomplice, like in Black Panther. But now, it looks like we get to see him be an evil, dangerous crime boss, which gives us goose pimples.
  4. Got Balls – To end the trailer with Viola Davis delivering the line, “The best thing we have going for us is being who we are. Because no one thinks we have the balls to pull this off,” was inspired.
  5. Ladies Run the World – Between Oceans 8Proud Mary, Annihilation, Red Sparrow, Disobedience, and others, 2018 has been a strong year for powerful females leading films. Not only does Widows look to be following in this mold, it’s possible it may break the mold completely and give us a true high water mark for future filmmakers and writers.

This movie is edging up in our “2018 Must Watch” list, but what did you think? Will you be heading into the heist with the ladies of Widows this November? Let us know in the comments!
