Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2018

It’s finally 2018 and it’s finally time for those movies we’ve been anticipating to seem at least a little bit closer. With the success of the IT reboot and Get Out in 2017, it’s looking like its going to be a very good year for horror. 2018 is stuffed full of plenty of juicy prequels, slashers, and reboots that we’ve all been dying to see. From revisiting cult favorites to creating new plots for a current universe, it looks as if the cinematic spotlight is shifting to horror this year. I’m screaming. Like, in the best way.

Here’s a list of a few of the movies set to be released in 2018, and a few more things you need to keep your eyes peeled for within the New Year.

Strangers: Prey at Night

Strangers Prey at Night 2018 Horror

Set to release in March of this year, the sequel of the home invasion thriller The Strangers is finally coming back to the big screen. From the previews and hints I’ve seen through the films fan page on Instagram, it appears that some of the original villains (with some fresh looks, of course) are returning for some more suspenseful slashing. I honestly think I’ve been anticipating this reboot since I made it to the credits of the first. I’m hoping that we see more of the same grueling realness that the first film brought to the table.

Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich

Puppet Master The Littlest Reich 2018 Horror

Oh yeah, you’re reading it right. A reboot of the cult hit is making its way back to theatres in December. According to some quick research, this one is going to be set in modern day, with a deeper focus on the ancient evil and adding some new storylines. Who’s ready to relive the recurring childhood nightmare of Blade making an unwanted appearance at your bedside? I am.

Slender Man

Slenderman movie 2018 horror

I’m still impatiently waiting for a trailer, or teaser for this flick, but for now what we do know is we can expect to see this released in early February. Joey King (of The Conjuring) is set to star in this horror film based on the constantly talked about Slenderman stories which originated on creepypasta. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been really excited about seeing the idea of Slenderman brought to life in a movie. I mean, tall, pale, and creepy men are sort of my thing anyways.

UPDATE: Since the posting of this article, the Slender Man trailer was released.

The Purge: The Island

Purge Island 2018 Horror

Okay, I still have so much hope in this franchise even though I was severely (like PAINFULLY) disappointed by the last installment. Coming July 4th, The Purge: The Island is a prequel to the events of the previous films. Fresh concept, plenty of ways to go with the script, and it definitely has my attention this year. I’m keeping my eyes and ears peeled for any more information on this film.

A Quiet Place

A Quiet Place 2018 Horror

Silence is survival… relatable. If you haven’t seen the trailer for this yet, I suggest you open a new tab this instant and take a gander. John Krasinski and Emily Blunt star in this new concept of horror: absolute silence. A family in isolation is living in fear of an evil force that is attracted by sound. While most plot details are being kept a major secret by the directors, with the April release date quickly approaching, more details will soon be released. You can check out the official trailer on Youtube now.

Nosferatu

Nosferatu 2018 horror

Ever since I saw (and was stunned by) The Witch in 2015, I’ve been keeping a very close eye on up and coming director Robert Eggers. With the original Nosferatu and the remake being amazing pieces of cinematic history, I think that it’s safe to say that this remake is in tender loving hands. Eggers brooding, dark style is a perfect match for Nosferatu’s timeless and beautiful aesthetic.

Annihilation

Annihilation 2018 Horror Movie

I haven’t been able to contain my excitement after watching the stunningly beautiful trailer for Annihilation (based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer). As a group of women ventures into an unknown region on earth called “The Shimmer,” they soon realize that the beauty of this place contains an unknown evil. Starring what looks like a skull/bear hybrid, I’m hoping for what looks like an exciting monster movie.

On top of these, we are also set to see commonly revisited favorites like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Piranha released this year as well. Although the past reboots of these have been, well, less than average, we are seeing big names in Hollywood stepping forwards to bring these gems back into their past owned spotlight. As far as trailers and plots go, it looks like the filmmakers have everything under lock and key, but as time inches closer to the projected release dates, we will be able to get our hands on those coveted plot lines. Until then, I’m definitely keeping all of you updated on all the latest information because, well, my resolution was to be nicer this year. I guess that’s where I’m starting.
