When it was announced that Jurassic World was getting a sequel, we weren’t sure how we felt about that. Sure, the Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt led film was enjoyable, but it had its problems and possibly didn’t need any sort of follow-up. Then we heard J.A. Bayona was stepping behind the camera to direct and we got a little more excited. If nothing else, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will at least LOOK cool.

Now, we finally have a first TrailerTown for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and if you haven’t seen it, check it out below. We’ll relay our top 5 thoughts about it after:

Top 5 Things About the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer

  1. Seein’ Ian – Whenever Jeff Goldblum does something, High Five: The Podcast pays attention. Not only is he a great actor, but his proclivity to poke fun at himself endears us to him, and his turn in 1993 as Ian Malcolm may be one of the most memorable 90’s movie characters, so seeing him turn back up in this TrailerTown gave us Goldblum Goosepimples (those are a thing, look it up, noob).
  2. Would You Look At That – While we could do with less CGI in the TrailerTown, the look of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is pretty impressive. Two shots in particular. The first is when the T-Rex roars over the volcano exploding, and the second is the underwater shot of Bryce Dallas Howard in the ball-vehicle as dinosaurs drop in around her. Also, the extended version of the TrailerTown posted above shows a lot of behind the scenes clips highlighting their use of practical, animatronic dinos, which is exciting and should have been used more in the trailer.
  3. Bayona-Net – If you haven’t heard of J.A. Bayona or seen his movies, you’re missing out. We first discovered him on his beautiful direction of the Guillermo del Toro-penned The Orphanage and then went on to do The Impossible (amazing) and A Monster Calls (pretty good). He has a flair for dramatic, tense films and a great eye for cinematography. He’s gonna make this pretty.
  4. Soundasaurus – The music choices for this TrailerTown are pretty damn great. Not only does the trailer start out using a song most recently tied to Black Mirror season 4, but the violin plucks at the beginning all the way to the very end with the more classic Jurassic Park theme sneaking in, the sound definitely sets the right mood.
  5. Jurassic World Staffers – Sure, Chris Pratt is funny and Bryce Dallas Howard can act circles around you, but we’re actually more excited about the other cast joining the movie. We’ve already mentioned Jeff Goldblum, but Jurassic World: Fallen Planet also features the talents of BD Wong, James Cromwell, Toby Jones, Ted Lavine, and Justice Smith (from the much-underappreciated”The Get Down” on Netflix). There’s a lot of dead meat in there, but they’re dead meat that can act!

So, that’s our take on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Will a possibly-unnecessary sequel about rescuing dinosaurs from a volcano be the best movie of 2018? No. But will it be a fun ride? Probably. We’ll be reserving our tickets, that’s for sure. What did you think?
