Let’s all just admit it, Netflix is knocking it out of the park with some of its original programming. From Orange is the New Black and Daredevil on the TV side, to Beasts of No Nation and now Okja on the feature film side.

We’ve been hearing about Okja for a while now, but never really knew what to expect until we watched this first TrailerTown, but holy crap it looks good! There’s a lot to digest here (pun intended), but take a minute and watch the first TrailerTown and then read our Top 5 thoughts on it below:

Top 5 Things About the Okja Trailer

  1. The Cast – The first thing that keeps hitting us over the faces with this TrailerTown is just how STACKED the cast looks. Here’s a short list: Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun, Devon Bostick, and (Gus, himself) Giancarlo Esposito. It’s like a Who’s Who of people we like to see on film.
  2. The Director – If you aren’t familiar with Bong Joon Ho, what are you doing on a movie website? He’s made some masterpieces in his last outings, including Snowpiercer, Mother and The Host. If those aren’t enough to get you excited about anything else he does, we don’t know what to tell you.
  3. The Tone – We love pseudo-futuristic, fantasy movies. This looks to be in that vein, having a very modern-day E.T. type vibe, which we TOTALLY can get behind. We also love the adult feel to it, with Tilda dropping that f-bomb out of the blue about a minute in.
  4. The Song Choice – TrailerTowns can live or die by their choice of music and Okja nails it on every level: the lyrics align with the story presented, the feel of the song perfectly juxtaposes with the action of the second half, and the time period of the song gives a classic feel, like we imagine the movie is going to do. Well played.
  5. The Cry Factor – Yes, we are going to cry after watching this…..and while watching this…..and while telling other people about our experiences watching this. We’re not too big to admit it. Shut up.

So, what did you think? Will you be adopting an Okja super pig? Or will you be going full vegetarian? Let us know in the comments!
