When we hear that action movie pioneer Shane Black is writing and directing a Predator movie called The Predator, we get excited. When we read that The Predator stars Sterling K. Brown, Jacob Tremblay, Thomas Jane, Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Keegan Michael Key, Edward James Olmos, and Jake Busey, we get even more excited. When we read the movie also stars Olivia Munn as a scientist talking about how Predators are “attempting hybridization,” we get less excited. But then we remember that Shane Black was actually in the first Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers (it’s true, look it up), we get excited all over again!

Enough gabbing, just rub mud on your face and watch this TrailerTown for The Predator. You can read our Top 5 thoughts about it below:

Top 5 Things About The Predator Trailer

  1. Back in Black – Shane Black is a hero to the modern action movie. This is the guy who wrote Leathal Weapon 1 & 2, Monster Squad, Last Action Hero, The Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Nice Guys, to name a few (and he directed a bunch of those, to boot!). He has a flair for creating action set-pieces, but also allowing characters to have realism, humor, and dimension. While this isn’t a bookend to his career, it does feel like sweet, sweet closure in some way, him coming back to the Predator-verse.
  2. This Is Us…Fanboying Over Sterling – Speaking of national treasures in the film and TV industries, Sterling K. Brown is in The Predator! We don’t know much about his character (named “Government Agent,” according to IMBD), but his one bit of dialogue in this TrailerTown is enough for us to know he’s going to be awesome.
  3. Space Hoarders – We only know bits and pieces of the plot so far, and what we know may be misleading, but one thing this TrailerTown does tell us is that Predators are scouring the universe and picking up different skills, weapons, and evolutionary advances from each planet they visit. Knowing that as a plot point, and also knowing this is supposed to take place in the world of the other five movies, we’re looking forward to some fun hints at the 1987 original.
  4. Loosey Busey – Okay, so in case you’ve forgotten, in 1990 they made a movie called Predator 2. That movie starred Danny Glover and Gary Busey. Gary Busey’s character was named Peter Keyes. According to IMDB, not only is Jake Busey in The Predator, his character’s name is “The Son of Peter Keys.” The meta-ness is hurting our brains!
  5. Predator? We Don’t Even Know Her! – With just being a first look at The Predator, we don’t get a lot of great looks at our titular Predator, but what we do see is uplifting in that it feels like the Predator we are familiar with. The hulking bod, the triangle red aiming lights, the click-voice, ‘splosions, death frisbees, and arm rockets all make quick appearances in this TrailerTown.

So that’s it! Will you be venturing into the woods with our heroes this September, or are you setting your arm detonation device to the whole franchise? Let us know in the comments!
